Pennsylvania DECA members are committed to helping and improving the communities in which they live. Each year the State Officers select one charitable organization to be the “State Charity”, and many of the PA DECA charitable efforts for that year benefit the selected organization.
This year, Pennsylvania DECA is proud to partner with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer as the 2017-2018 State Charity!
About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
Alexandra Scott, diagnosed with neuroblastoma after her first birthday, was just 4 1/2 years old when she held her first Lemonade Stand with the hopes of raising enough funds to find cures to all types of childhood cancer. By the time of her death in 2004, Alex had raised more than $1 million to help find cures for diseases like the one that took her life. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised over $140 million for childhood cancer and funded 690 research projects that have saved the lives of kids fighting cancer with no treatment options left.
This year, Pennsylvania DECA will help donate to the success of this amazing foundation! Some of the ways we are going to get involved include:
- Lemon Week, an entire week dedicated to raising awareness for Alex's Lemonade Stand
- A live video chat with Alex's mother, Liz Scott
- Miracle Minute at the State Conference
- And a Basket Raffle at the State Conference
We also encourage you to develop unique and exciting fundraisers that can be held in your own chapter. Keep in mind that raising money for our State Charity can help you to receive some cool recognition in our Pennsylvania DECA Plan of Action!
Our goal for Pennsylvania DECA this year is to raise over $14,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, which will surpass any amount ever raised for charity in Pennsylvania DECA history! But we can only do this with your help, so please join us in the fight to end childhood cancer!
