G reetings Pennsylvania DECA!
I hope everyone is excited for a great year! My name is Molly Twohig, your 2011-2012 DECA State President from Henderson High School in West Chester. Serving as your President is truly an honor, and it has been a delight to work with the fifteen state officers from across Pennsylvania. Together, we have made plans to ensure that every DECA member aspires higher, reaches new heights, and experiences an exceptional year!
In early July, the Pennsylvania DECA District Representatives, Executive Council, and I convened in our nation’s capital Washington D.C. to meet with the National Officer Team and other State Officers from around the country. It was a wonderful opportunity that allowed us to bring back many ideas and apply them to make our state organization even better. We worked for many hours to create a Program of Work that every chapter will be enthusiastic about completing. The rewards for participating in the Program of Work this year are better than ever! Along with the Program of Work, your officers chose the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) as our charity of choice. MDA is an amazing cause and Pennsylvania DECA is a powerhouse when it comes to philanthropy, therefore I can only imagine all of the support we can provide!
As well as working on the Program of Work and fundraising for MDA, there are so many DECA events quickly approaching. DECA Week, October 9th through the 15th, is a time when DECA can be broadcasted through your schools and communities. For fun ideas and activities for DECA Week, check out the September Edition of our own Pennsylvania DECA newsletter, The DECA Digest. This year’s North Atlantic Region Conference (NARCON) is something I know we are all anticipating. NARCON will be held in Philadelphia on November 18th through November 20th. For Pennsylvania to be hosting the annual conference is such an honor and a perfect opportunity to meet with our North Atlantic Region Vice-President, Jenn Harrington, as well as DECA members from all over the North Atlantic Region. I hope to see you there! Those are only two of the many awesome events for the upcoming year. We can also look forward to District Competitions in the winter, the State Career Development Conference in Hershey in February, and last but certainly not least, ICDC. The International Career Development Conference will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah this year, and it’s guaranteed to be a blast!
Best of luck for the upcoming year!
